Basic tips for layout creation!
« on: January 28, 2011, 10:14:37 AM »
Title says it all.
Decided to make something like this, because lately there have been pretty much guys who are making layouts!
I really hope that these tips / suggestions will help you!

>>  First of all, draw your imagined track or competition layout on paper sheet. It will be a lot easier for you to create it afterwards in game.
>>  Whatever you make (track or competition layout), try to add as less objects as possible. Less FPS drops.
>>  Do not add useless objects. For example: If you’ve finished your track / comp lyt and it’s enough visible (for driving), do not place like useless bales, tyres, banners etc.
>>  How to make it equally wide?
It’s pretty easy, takes more time, but at least the result is looking good.
Place your mouse cursor where you want to start the measurements, then press "D" (in shift + U mod), you'll see a black pole/stick which is going to stand still, and there is going to be also 2nd pole/stick, just drag it to the other side of the track. Meters you can see at the right bottom corner.

Preview:

>>  Remember that you can add only 512objects, so if you’re making a track be careful, you might get a message: „Can’t add more objects”, what means that you’ll have to remake some part of your track or even remove it. So try to make it within the limits.

>>  And the last suggestion. Upload all of your created layouts on: http://layouts.lfsdatabase.eu/

Regards, MareX!

Tips from OkaChan!

This is how I do it:

First get yourself the LytEditor. Then go to the "backgrounds" folder.
Make a backup of "AU1.png". Then open it up in Photoshop or whatever Pixel app you're using.

Then start up LFS. Find a spot that's visible on the background .png and also in LFS.
That way you can measure a point in LFS and then measure it in Photoshop. Now you have a point of reference for scale in game.
I did it on the concrete poles, by our garage building.

So now that I know that the distance between the poles is about 2 meters in game I can match the scale of the satellite image.
At this point you can go ahead and take satellite images at whatever resolution as long as you can see the scale of the map in the image.

To test this theory in a quick way you can make a path object in Photoshop that matches the 2 meter reference. Then duplicate it as many times as you need to get a particular measurement. In my case I use 40 meters mark.

I then proceed to copy and move the shape 5 times to get 10 meter mark.

...and then copy all the shapes and move again to get 40 meter mark.

Afterwards save flatten the image and save as "AU1.png". Open up Lyt editor and place 2 objects on the ends of your scale reference.

Save the Layout, copy it into your game folder and go test measure it in LFS.
Mine turned out like this:

Now tweak it to your likings, so that you get the precise enough measurement reference. Then take your satellite image and paste it in Photoshop. Scale it to match the scale of your reference points. You should have a reference point on the Layout background at this point as well as on your satellite image.

In my case I traced the outline of the track to further highlight the image.

Then build a basic layout in the LytEditor.

Save it, and test it out in LFS.

my 2c.  :P

P.S If anyone else have any other good suggestion, feel free to share it on this topic and I'll add it to my list. Oh and do not spam here.
Thanks in advance!
