Student seeking teacher
« on: June 15, 2009, 05:12:40 PM »
Ok so first let me start off by introducing myself. My name is Fail and I'm 21 years old. I got introduced to LFS awhile back from some friends, but would only play when they were around, which wasn't much unfortunately. They also flaked out and never bought S2 so I was generally a lonewolf which wasn't that great. My first impressions of S2 were pretty bad. Most of the people seemed uptight and shunned outsiders for no particular reason. But alas, I'm not here for an emo whinefest. :)

I'm just looking for someone to show me the ropes. I've just picked up LFS again tried getting back into it this week. I have been practicing mostly in singleplayer trying to get the basics down, which sadly, I'm terrible at for some reason. I'd like to blame my equipment (terrible wheel), but it's probably just user error.  :P

Anyways, if anyone has anyone spare time, patience, and mess around with a new player, let me know. It's a lot more straight forward having someone criticize my mistakes real time than watch videos and spectate people in game who seem to get upset whenever I ask questions. I'm a fairly patient person myself and just want to have fun. I personally could care less about the politics that I've strangely seen throughout this game on the servers. Maybe I just have bad luck and approach people on bad days?  :D

EDIT: Not really sure if this is the right forum to post this in, just as an fyi. The help section looked like it was more for technical questions? Not really sure.

Lol

What you say is quite true but i think there is a reason why. Let me try to explain it.
"good" drifters got their own way to drift and have fun cuz they often drift with the same people which become friends and have a good level too.
Many of some new comers try to join them and do crash etc, maybe by hazard but it's quite annoying to have a lil train of noobsters behind you everytime you wanna drift with one of your friend.
That can explain this upset attitude. Btw when i drift or twin i can't really answer to questions and all...talking+drifting=wall/car crashing.

So imo, you have to ask some people who are on servers the kind of wonder, maybe some people would say: ok let's twin or show me how you drift" but we aren't bad guyz generally speaking...some of upsets people are often kidies you know...they have reactions of a 13 year old lil boy sometimes, we all have to keep that fact in mind.

Anyway, if one day you see me on falken, don't hesitate to ask me for a twin or other ;)
I'm not pro, but i can always help you on some questions :) ( i have a crappy low cost logitech wheel too)

@Spinaker:

Yeah, I can completely understand where you are coming from with that statement. It's generally the reason I stay off of multiplayer at the moment or just spectate someone if I do decide to join a server. Sorry if it sounded like I was ranting about that issue. I really wasn't trying to make a post specifically about the attitudes of the players I have met. ;)

I think there are a few resources I could really use that I forgot to mention in my first post. The first is a guide on how to tune setups. I remember finding one on the LFS forums about a year ago when I first was playing the demo/S2, but I can't find it via search now. Searching the LFS forums seems to bring back a bunch of threads that have nothing to do with what you searched for in the first place for some reason.  ???

Second, I could really use a practice skid pad for singleplayer use. I also found one on the forums awhile back that had two different figgure eights and two different circles. One was large, one was smaller. I can't seem to find any drift skid pads anymore for some reason. I've honestly been searching the LFS forums for quite some time and I think there are just so many posts now that the return from any queries made is rediculous. The biggest reason I want a skid pad to practice on is I have a real hard time trying to control a drift. I can sit there and do long drifts all day in the car park, but the minute I have a tight turn or two consecutive turns, I fail miserably. I've spectated people and watched youtube videos for awhile, but I can't seem to pinpoint my problem(s).

Wheel is an old Logitech Wingman Formula GP that I bought back in the ages of Motor City Online if any of you actually remember/played that game. It only has 180 degrees of turning radius.  :-[

Be one with your car and you're done.

For some setup informations, go over there http://teaminferno.hu/index.php?p_section=olvas&p_news_id=426
You can find some good setup over there, I use Shim's one (you have to click on the old setup button to see it) and it's pretty good. The only thing that you will have to change is the gear ratio and it should be fine.
