"How to Drift" tutorials
« on: December 28, 2008, 05:32:30 PM »
Hello all.

I was wondering, that anyone from the Pro Drifter's can make us amateur's video tutorials for each track and few learning AutoCross layout's, so we can use them to learn how to drift good.

I found some on the net.

Here is one:

I hope someone's gonna help us newbies to learn how to brake, where, in wich gear to drive etc etc...

Thank's.

( if this is a bad idea, delete this topic. :) )

yep i know, but if you dont know wich line you choose, or in wich gears you should turn in the corners, to be fast and do not destroy the drifting peoples speed behind you...

or every drifter uses the ideal line that the LFS show us if i press 4? :)

The ideal line in LFS is not the ideal line for drifting (not all the time). Some people takes different lines on some turns (according to their setup or driving style), and for the gear its also according to your setup.
A video with the "ideal" lines of drifting still could be interesting or at least entertaining to watch. I wonder if someone will do the task.

I got accustomed to it sometimes Drift to go regularly to servers, as one watching only and to listen as the rest Drifter makes the bends and the arcs travels car. This merely in that direction would be good that let a basis be everybody's idea how it would be necessary to go how from that direction. From this everybody develops his own technique then of course.

Sorry if it's not readable, i tranlated it with a online translater, i cant write this down... If it's not understandable, i try to write it down with my own words. :)

I love this online translator nonsense "inglich"!
I saw so much of that chit that i can barely understand it.

You just said that often you got to drift servers and spec some guys there to see how they drives and which lines they take as it can be a good basis on "how to drift". And then that after you can develop your own way to drift with that basis.

Zsoltee, the best advice i can give is to watch the good drifters. thats what i did wen i started out, save replays, and see the techniques that they use, and watch different drifters, to see which style of drifting suits you and how you want to drive. Main thing is have fun, and enjoy it  :)

So with my own words...

Sometimes i go on a drfit server and watch ppl Drifting, the line, the gear in a corner, the gas reactions, the wheel reactions, the brake etc etc...

and on the server or in SP practice mode is try to reproduce them. For me it's very hard because i use a Logtech RumblePad II gamepad, to controll the car, but in most cases i can get good ideas and i can use them for my own drift style.

I'm still amateur, but i think i have learnd so many things in the past 2 weeks. If everything's go fine, i'l be able to buy one G25 for me in january and i'l be able too drift better than now. :)

Switching from gamepad to wheel will be pretty hard at first I think, it was for me :P, but once you get used to it and learn it, you will see how much easier it is to have a smooth line and control the car. The 'ideal' line, #4, is good to start learning with, it shows you where you might need to slow down a bit etc, like others have said its not the best line for drifing at some points on the track but there are a lot of parts where it does give you nice guidance. If you do happen to watch some replays of other drivers, you might have to rewind or watch the same one over a couple times, you should pay attention to the steering input at iniations mainly but also through the rest of the corner, also use of the clutch and their throttling, you will also be able to see where people use the brakes, or instead of brakes some slow throttling or maybe even a quick ebrake. Just keep practing and over time you will know the ins and outs of the track your driving on and get a better feel for what to do and not to do :).

As said, just keep practicing and find your own style, start following people and seeing where they transition etc, as for knowing which gear your in....it's simple, change up when your out of revs and change down when the car feels starved of revs....just remember you need to keep those wheels spinning

Sometimes a rev down will kill the drift while a clutch kick not!!

Depends, but that's the point of getting a feel for it, you feel what the cars going to do in response to your actions, and the only way to achieve that is practice, videos wont help.
