How do you make a video??
« on: June 09, 2008, 02:36:03 PM »

I'm not the best movie maker in the world nor do I make movies everyday.
But I can tell you the way I do it, on a fast and slow PC.

You will need:
A video capture program: Fraps.
A video editing program: Adobe Photoshop, After effects, Sony Vegas, Pinnacle Studio, Avid.. etc
Virtual Dub and a codec, xvid or divx. (i use xvid).

Set your fraps to capture full at 30 fps.
Go in LFS, change your resolution to 800x600 (start with this until you get the hang of it).
go to Misc, FPS limit rate @ 30.

Go find a reply you like, and when you find some cool spots press F9.  (you can change it in Fraps to something else since F9 is already hotkey for LFS).

After you got your footage, close everything and open a Video editing program and have fun in there :)

When you save, save as Microsoft AVI uncompressed, since you will compress it using Virtualdub.

This is a quick list for someone who has no idea how to make a movie.

If anyone wants to add to this, feel free to, or have any questions.

For some really slow computers, if you are really having a struggle...
I would recommend compressing the files before you edit.
it helps but your quality might go down...
although...if you have to compress before editing u shouldnt be editing lol...

I guess thats all I can think of...

As far as the creative side goes...
there is not much we can help on besides refering you to
other edited videos...get some ideas..but try not to copy so much
ex: Tarcs videos have some defined effects to it like he uses a lot of DNB
and camera shakes...its cool to do it but you must find your own signature...

YouTube finally allowed bigger quality of videos.

from now put &fmt=22 to end of url.

you are meant to add it to the end of youtube URLs....
but it only works on some videos if the video has descent
quality without the added code. if the video is say very old and low res..it wont work...

Someone suggested compressing captured video files before editing, on slow machines.
I strongly recommend NOT to do so, videoeditors are meant to use uncompressed videos transferred from cameras.
If compressed, the videoeditor first has to decompress it to have it "raw" again (making it easier for rendering)

So it has nothing to do with performance, maybe compressing it saves space but definitely slows down the editing itself.

 Fraps 2.9.8 Retail
In LFS at record (Full mode), 1280x1024, 75Hz and on the maximum options the picture jerks. Still interestingly that if I change options on minimum at the same permission all remains same (FPS)

In game and in аfraps it is exposed on 60fps, they are, but in places falls to 1FPS.
Interestingly that in GTA IV on the maximum options for mine HD4850 and at the same permission at record leaves 27FPS.

cpu:

Gigabyte GA-EP43
E8200 @2.6, overclock to 3.4
Radeon HD4850 512, +17% overclock
kingston 667mhz, overclock до 840mhz x2

The temperature of all components is perfectly in order, i.e. does not exceed 40 degrees.

On a hard disk it is a lot of place

help, please!
